Birthweight, childhood, and adult BMI have been indicated associated with the NAFLD, However, current studies have been influenced by confounding factors, and the independent role of these weight characteristics in NAFLD remains controversial. Therefore, it is necessary to use genetic methods to evaluate the genetic associations of birthweight, childhood and adult body mass index (BMI) on the NAFLD, and to determine whether birth weight and childhood obesity directly affects the risk of NAFLD independently of adult obesity.
