A Gram-negative, facultatively anaerobic, short-rod shaped bacterium, designated as strain HZ0627T, was isolated from the appendiceal pus of a patient with appendicitis in Yongzhou, Hunan, China. This strain was subjected to comprehensive phenotypic, phylogenetic, and genomic analyses using polyphasic taxonomic methods. Phylogenetic analysis of the 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that this strain belongs to the genus Proteus, while that based on the rpoB gene sequence and the whole genome sequence demonstrated that this strain formed a distinct interspecies clade separated from other type strains of Proteus species. Therefore, we propose the name Proteus appendicitidis sp. nov. for strain HZ0627T (= CCTCC AB2022380T = KCTC92986T), which represents the type strain of this novel Proteus species.

一株革兰氏阴性（Gram-negative）、兼性厌氧（facultatively anaerobic）、短杆状的细菌，命名为菌株HZ0627T，从中国湖南省永州市一名阑尾炎患者的阑尾脓液中分离得到。该菌株通过多相分类学方法，完成了全面的表型、系统发育及基因组分析。对16S rRNA基因（16S rRNA gene）序列的系统发育分析显示，该菌株隶属于变形杆菌属（Proteus）；而基于rpoB基因（rpoB gene）序列及全基因组序列的分析则表明，该菌株形成了一个独立的种间演化支，与其他变形杆菌属物种的模式菌株均存在显著区分。因此，我们将菌株HZ0627T（= CCTCC AB2022380T = KCTC92986T）命名为阑尾炎变形杆菌（Proteus appendicitidis sp. nov.），该菌株为该新型变形杆菌物种的模式菌株。
