The monito del monte (Dromiciops gliroides) is a small nocturnal marsupial in southwestern Argentina and Chile, South America. It is the only extant species in the ancient order Microbiotheria, and the sole New World representative of the superorder Australidelphia (source Wikipedia). This assembly was created from sample collected from an adult female by Roberto Nespolo and Julian Quintero in Chile, to generate a high-quality reference genome assembly for the Vertebrate Genomes Project (VGP). Sequencing and genome assembly were conducted at the Max Planck Institute in Dresden , led by Gene Meyers, and coordinated with Olivier Fedrigo and Erich D. Jarvis.
