The objective of this study was to determine the needs, lacks of Thai domestic workers in using English to perform their duties effectively and also their wants for future English language training. The study emphasized only listening and speaking skills. The data was collected with a five-point Likert scale questionnaire. The findings showed that Thai domestic workers had demand in listening to employers’ requests, complaints, comments, and a variety of accents. In terms of speaking skills, they wanted to better provide the details of their services, and to be able to engage in phone conversations. A wide variety of English accents caused the most trouble for them in listening. They also had the most trouble in speaking politely. Basic English conversation courses were preferred by most domestic workers. They would also like to have more opportunities to practice through activities, such as dialogues and role-plays. A mix of native and non-native teachers was most preferred by Thai domestic workers.

本研究旨在明确泰国家政从业人员在依托英语高效履行工作职责时的实际需求与现存短板,同时调研其对未来英语语言培训的诉求。本次研究仅聚焦于英语听力与口语两项技能。数据采集采用李克特五点量表(five-point Likert scale)问卷。研究结果显示,泰国家政从业人员在聆听雇主的指令、投诉、评价以及各类口音的英语时存在明确的听力应用需求。在口语技能层面,他们希望能够更精准地提供服务细节,并可熟练开展电话沟通。多样的英语口音是其听力环节面临的最大挑战,而得体的口语表达则是他们在口语方面最棘手的难题。多数家政从业人员倾向于选择基础英语会话课程,同时也期望通过对话、角色扮演等活动获得更多练习机会。泰国家政从业人员最青睐由母语为英语与非母语为英语的教师组成的混合授课团队。
