Taxonomy, occurrences, phylogeny, traits and uses of the entire plant genus Scleria (Cyperaceae)

This resource includes 5 datasets: (1) Taxonomy (261 species): Updated taxonomy of the genus Scleria at the species level based on Bauters et al. 2016 and 2019. (2) Occurrences (latitude/longitude): data was compiled using observations from the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, Red List, research grade identifications from iNaturalist (accessed 13/08/2023) and records for collections from BR, K, GENT, L, MO, NY, P, US and WAG which were georeferenced using Google Earth. The dataset includes 22,759 observations from 248 species. Methodology follows Larridon et al. (2021). (3) Phylogeny of the genus based on three markers (ITS, ndhF, rps16) from Larridon et al. (2021) (136 species). (4) Traits (261 species). We measured maximum height, maximum blade length, maximum blade width, nutlet length and nutlet width from 1,254 specimens housed at Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris. For species missing in these herbaria, we completed the dataset using information from protologues and descriptions from regional floras. Data include average traits per species (and life form) and the original dataset of herbarium measurements (specimen ID included). We also measured nutlet weight in one specimen per species at Kew, which is included in this dataset. (5) Uses & ecology: ethnobotany (mostly medicinal uses) and references to its ecology in several ecosystems (e.g., pollination, dispersal, ecological role). This data was gathered from several bibliographical sources, also provided.本数据集资源涵盖5个子数据集，具体如下： (1) 分类学（Taxonomy）：基于Bauters等人2016年与2019年的研究成果，更新了珍珠茅属（Scleria）的物种水平分类系统，共包含261个物种。 (2) 分布记录（Occurrences，即经纬度数据）：本数据集整合了全球生物多样性信息设施（Global Biodiversity Information Facility）、红色名录（Red List）的观测数据，iNaturalist平台（iNaturalist）的科研级鉴定记录（数据获取时间为2023年8月13日），以及来自BR、K、GENT、L、MO、NY、P、US、WAG等标本馆的馆藏标本记录，所有记录均通过Google Earth完成地理配准。本数据集共包含248个物种的22759条分布观测记录，数据处理方法遵循Larridon等人2021年的研究规范。 (3) 系统发育数据集（Phylogeny）：基于Larridon等人2021年研究中的3个分子标记（ITS、ndhF、rps16）构建的珍珠茅属系统发育树，涵盖136个物种。 (4) 性状数据集（Traits）：涵盖261个物种的形态性状数据。研究人员对收藏于英国皇家植物园邱园（Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew）与巴黎国家自然历史博物馆（Muséum National d'Histoire Naturelle）的1254份标本进行测量，获取了株高最大值、叶片长度最大值、叶片宽度最大值、小坚果长度及小坚果宽度数据。对于上述标本馆未馆藏的物种，研究人员通过原初文献与区域植物志的描述补充了数据集内容。本数据集包含各物种（及对应生活型）的平均性状数据，以及附带标本编号的馆藏标本测量原始数据集。此外，研究人员还在邱园对每个物种的1份标本开展了小坚果重量测量，相关数据已纳入本数据集。 (5) 用途与生态学数据集（Uses & Ecology）：包含民族植物学信息（以药用用途为主），以及该属植物在多种生态系统中的生态学相关记载（如传粉机制、扩散模式、生态功能等）。本部分数据整合自多篇参考文献，相关文献亦随本数据集一并提供。
