NRS-14686 | Policy files of the Inter-Departmental Standing Committee on the Intellectually Handicapped [Handicapped Persons Bureau, Department of Community Services]

This committee was established as a sub-committee of the Consultative Council on the Intellectually Handicapped, and continued as a sub-committee of the New South Wales Advisory Council on the Handicapped when it replaced the earlier body in February 1979. Its functions were to advise the Government and appropriate Ministers on the development of services for the handicapped; the co-ordination and the integration of Departmental services for the intellectually handicapped; and to make recommendations to the appropriate Minister for the payment of subsidies or grants to organisations providing services in this field. During the period 1964-73 the establishment and on-going maintenance cost of vocational facilities such as schools and sheltered workshops for the intellectually handicapped were met by capital grants administered by the Consultative Standing Committee. The policy files of the Committee comprise letters received and copies of letters sent; copies of Council, Committee and other Sub-Committees' Minutes; financial statements; schedules of applications for grants; recommendations on allocations of funds; submissions and position papers. Most files are prefixed by either IHAF (Intellectually Handicapped Assistance Fund) or SCH - sometimes SCIH - (Standing Committee on the [Intellectually] Handicapped)(13/11691 part-11711). 21 boxes (part).
