POLLEN, PHYTOLITH, AND MACROFLORAL ANALYSIS FOR PROJECT 92-1307

Stratigraphic samples from two backhoe trenches near Waiawa Stream in the
area of the middle loch of Pearl Harbor were examined for pollen, phytolith,
and/or macrofloral remains. The primary purpose for the paleobotanical analyses
was the identification of strata used for agriculture. Analysis of pollen,
phytolith, and macrofloral remains also yielded evidence concerning the greater
vegetation of not only the wetland located adjacent to Waiawa Stream, but also
vegetation upstream.

对珍珠港中部潟湖区域怀阿瓦溪附近两处反铲探沟中的地层样品开展检测，分析其中的花粉、植硅体（phytolith）及/或大植物遗存。本次古植物学分析的核心目的为识别出曾被用于农业活动的地层；此外，对花粉、植硅体与大植物遗存的分析还获取了相关证据，不仅能够揭示怀阿瓦溪毗邻湿地的植被群落特征，还可反映上游区域的植被状况。
