A newly designed intramedullary hip nail with the cervical axis offset anterior to the main shaft axis gives improved results. Due to its shape better matching the human anatomy, the offset nail is easier to fix in the centre of the femoral neck and the femoral ball and the fracture bone fragments are aligned closer to their pre-fracture anatomical position at the fracture site. The data is from a clinical trial comparing patients who suffered an intertrochanteric hip fracture. 50 patients received an implant of the new Offset Nail; and 50 control cases received a commercially available non-offset nail. The data includes patient case data, fracture classification, fracture reduction measurements, x-ray images, and rehabilitation results. Patients who received the offset nail rehabilitate in a shorter time, achieve better post-surgery mobility, and are more likely to re-gain the capability for independent living.
