This collection consists of the documentation and metadata for the ESRC project "Ten years on Stalking in Kirklees: policing and support for victims".
This research supported understanding of stalking in Kirklees (West Yorkshire), ten years on from major developments in policy and practice, and amid continuing concern about how stalking is recognised, investigated and responded to by criminal justice agencies and support services. The motivation for the study was twofold: first, to build a clearer local picture of how stalking presents and is policed in Kirklees; and second, to generate evidence that can inform improvements in police response, safeguarding, referral pathways and survivor support, particularly for women who experience stalking.
The study aimed to capture perspectives from two key groups through semi-structured qualitative interviews: police officers working in the Kirklees district (including frontline and strategic roles) and women with lived experience of stalking.
The accompanying documentation shows that interviews were designed to explore: officers’ knowledge of stalking and how it differs from harassment; legal understanding and perceptions of seriousness; challenges in identifying patterns of behaviour; responses to domestic/ex-partner versus stranger stalking; use of Stalking Protection Orders and other protective orders; risk assessment and safeguarding (including MARAC processes); barriers to reporting and victim engagement; training, guidance and specialist resources; and partnership working across agencies. Interviews with women were designed to focus on experiences of police involvement and support, including feeling believed, safety outcomes, referrals, and experiences of the criminal justice process, alongside the impacts of stalking (including technology-facilitated stalking) and preferred language/terminology.
This record consists of metadata and documentation only. The underlying interview data could not be archived due to legal and ethical constraints.
