Turkish Municipal Council Elections, 2014–2024: An Analytical Dataset on Electoral Representation and Seat Allocation

This dataset accompanies the study “A Levy per List: Vote Subtraction, Exclusion and the Merger Premium in Turkish Municipal Councils, 2014–2024.” It contains 31,739 records and 34 variables covering municipal council elections in Türkiye in 2014, 2019, and 2024. The data are derived from official election results published by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat), with selected records verified against documentation from the Supreme Election Council (YSK). The dataset supports the examination of electoral representation, vote subtraction, seat allocation, disproportionality, and hypothetical party-list mergers under alternative electoral rules. The main analytical sample covers 4,008 election events across 1,336 municipalities. The repository contains an analytical CSV file and an accompanying data dictionary defining the variables, sample indicators, and available source-matching fields. These materials are provided to facilitate data inspection, transparency, and further academic research.
