The volume index of the fast food service industry in the Netherlands continuously increased between 2016 and 2019. However, the source predicted a decrease in 2021, with a quick service restaurant industry volume index just under 119 (index 2015 = 100). This decline was the direct result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic -many industries experienced a significant slowdown in their activity, if not a complete halt, resulting in a substantial loss of revenue.
