Ambitious climate targets for 2020

In order to achieve the 2°C target, more ambitious greenhouse gas reduction targets for 2020 are being discussed than envisaged in the EU's climate and energy package. For Austria, the Federal Environment Agency has identified possible measures to achieve more ambitious targets based on energy and greenhouse gas scenarios for 2020 and compared them with avoidance costs from the literature. In the effort-sharing sector, a national reduction of minus 25% compared to 2005 is possible by 2020. The reduction potentials largely consist of a further reduction in transport fuel exports and further measures in the agriculture, industry (NON-ETS) and space heating sectors.
