Ceramic: McElmo Black-on-white ladle AZRU8-2073

McElmo Black-on-white ladle, Accession AZRU-00008 Catalog #2073. Morris FS 5131. CULTURALLY SENSITIVE: NAGPRA ARTIFACT; ACCESS RESTRICTED. Analyzed by Lori Reed 2011. Ladle is 80% complete. Recovered from Earl Morris excavation of Kiva A.4, Burial 133, Aztec West Ruin Annex. Earl Morris’ (1924:245-246) description of Kiva A.4 at the time of excavation is as follows: “The diameter of Kiva A.4 was 9 ½ feet and the distance from floor to surface of the mound 7 feet. The walls were a one-course veneer of cobblestones…A deposit of refuse covered the floor to a depth of 1 foot 5 inches against the south wall, sloping thence downward and dwindling out at the center of the room. Ashes, sweepings, animal bones, and potsherds were the principal components. This deposit yielded a double-bottomed mug (Field No. 5135), two awls (Field Nos. 5136, 5138), two bone tubes (Field Nos. 5139, 5140), a deer jaw scraper (Field No. 5141), and a red crinoid stem (Field No. 5137)…”

该器物出土于厄尔·莫里斯（Earl Morris）主持发掘的阿兹特克西遗址附属区A.4号基瓦（Kiva）133号墓葬。厄尔·莫里斯（1924年：245-246）在发掘时对A.4号基瓦的描述如下："A.4号基瓦口径为9.5英尺，从地面到土丘顶部的高度为7英尺。墙体为单层鹅卵石贴面砌筑……堆积的废弃物覆盖了墓室地面，沿南墙堆积深度达1英尺5英寸，随后逐渐向下倾斜，至墓室中心处消失殆尽。该堆积的主要成分为灰烬、清扫杂物、动物骨骼与陶片。此次堆积出土了一件双底杯（野外编号5135）、两枚锥针（野外编号5136、5138）、两根骨管（野外编号5139、5140）、一件鹿下颌刮器（野外编号5141）以及一件红色海百合茎（野外编号5137）……"
