Indian hedge mustard (Sisymbrium orientale L.) (IHM) is a major broadleaf weed of Australian agriculture. Moreover, this species has become more troublesome in the no-till seeding systems recently adopted in Australia. The evolution of herbicide resistance in this weed species has made management considerably more difficult. To date, resistance to four different herbicide modes of action including AHAS inhibitors, PDS (phytoene desaturase) inhibitors, synthetic auxins and triazine herbicides has been found in IHM in Australia. To explore the mechanism of resistance to corresponding herbicides, we have launched the project of sequencing the IHM genome and provided it to global researchers in need.

印度篱芥菜(Indian hedge mustard,学名Sisymbrium orientale L.,以下简称IHM)是澳大利亚农业生产中的主要阔叶杂草。近年来,该物种在澳大利亚新近推广的免耕播种系统中为害愈发严重。该杂草的抗药性演化大幅提升了其防治难度。截至目前,澳大利亚的IHM种群已对四类不同作用机制的除草剂产生抗药性,涵盖乙酰羟酸合酶(AHAS)抑制剂、八氢番茄红素去饱和酶(phytoene desaturase,简称PDS)抑制剂、合成生长素类除草剂及三嗪类除草剂。为探究该杂草对相应除草剂的抗药性机制,本研究团队启动了IHM基因组测序项目,并将相关测序数据提供给全球有需求的科研人员。
