This paper focuses on the root systems of six temperate tree species in the Maoershan National Nature Reserve. It investigates the correlation between root morphology and anatomy, as well as the impact of this correlation on root functions during the improvement of soil nitrogen availability. The results demonstrate that changes in the anatomical structure of root tips contribute to the alterations of root morphological traits after nitrogen application, and may exert significant effects on root physiological functions such as enhancing water and nutrient transportation.
