This dataset has been analyzed in a manuscript accepted to Science of the Total Environment titled: Glacially-fed lakes of West Greenland have elevated metal and nutrient concentrations and serve as regional repositories of these materials. This dataset provides information on heavy metal and nutrient concentrations in the water and sediment of four glacially-fed (GF) and four snow and groundwater-fed (SF) lakes near Kangerlussuaq, West Greenland during the summer of 2023.
This data was used to investigate 1) the difference in nutrient and heavy metal concentrations between GF and SF lakes; 2) the ability of GF lakes to act as sinks of nutrients and heavy metals; and 3) the temporal trends in heavy metals in GF and SF lakes. The overall objective was to gain a better understanding of nutrient and heavy metal concentration in GF lakes and the role that GF lakes play in the movement and fate of these chemical elements in terms of the land to ocean aquatic continuum.
The data showed that 1) GF lakes had higher concentrations of nutrients and most heavy metals in both the water and sediment compared to SF lakes; 2) GF lakes serve as sinks of nutrients and metals; and 3) mercury and lead have increased over time in SF lakes.
Included below are five datasets of 1) nutrient and heavy metal concentrations in the surface water, 2) nutrient and heavy metal concentrations in sediment cores, 3) percent organic carbon from sediment cores, 4) delta-15 nitrogen (δ15N) from sediment cores, and 5) mercury concentrations in sediment cores from GF and SF lakes. A dataset with information on lake characteristics and coordinates is also included.

本数据集包含以下5类数据:1)表层水中的营养盐与重金属浓度数据;2)沉积物岩芯中的营养盐与重金属浓度数据;3)沉积物岩芯的有机碳占比数据;4)沉积物岩芯的氮同位素δ¹⁵N(delta-15N)数据;5)冰川补给型与积雪/地下水补给型湖泊沉积物岩芯中的汞浓度数据。此外还附带一份包含湖泊特征与坐标信息的数据集。
