Description of ferromanganese concretions from the Jervis Inlet, British Columbia

From 1983 until 1989 NOAA-NCEI compiled the NOAA-MMS Marine Minerals Geochemical Database from journal articles, technical reports and unpublished sources from other institutions. At the time it was the most extended data compilation on ferromanganese deposits world wide. Initially published in a proprietary format incompatible with present day standards it was jointly decided by AWI and NOAA to transcribe this legacy data into PANGAEA. This transfer is augmented by a careful checking of the original sources when available and the encoding of ancillary information (sample description, method of analysis...) not present in the NOAA-MMS database.

1983年至1989年，美国国家海洋和大气管理局国家环境信息中心（NOAA-NCEI）从期刊论文、技术报告及其他机构的未公开资料中，汇编生成了NOAA-MMS海洋矿物地球化学数据库。彼时，该数据集是全球范围内覆盖范围最广的铁锰矿床相关数据汇编。由于该数据库最初以与现行标准不兼容的专有格式发布，德国阿尔弗雷德·魏格纳研究所（AWI）与美国国家海洋和大气管理局（NOAA）共同决策，将这批遗留数据迁移至PANGAEA科研数据平台。本次数据迁移还额外补充了两项工作：若可获取原始资料，则对其开展细致校核；同时补全并编码NOAA-MMS数据库未收录的辅助信息，例如样品描述、分析方法等。
