Longitudinal stool metagenomics from preterm infants within the first month after birth

We studied stool samples from 70 preterm infants with LOS (38 infants with probiotic supplementation) and 164 unaffected controls (70 with probiotic supplementation). Administration of probiotics led to an early colonization of the probiotic bacteria in the preterm infant gut in line with an increase of fecal concentrations of most metabolites, which were found to increase with higher gestational age and days of life.

本研究对70例罹患晚发性败血症(LOS)的早产婴儿(其中38例接受益生菌补充干预)与164名未受感染的对照婴儿(其中70例接受益生菌补充干预)的粪便样本开展分析。益生菌干预可促使早产婴儿肠道内较早定植益生菌,同时多数粪便代谢物的浓度随之升高;进一步分析显示,此类代谢物的浓度随胎龄增大以及出生后天数增加而升高。
