Overview This dataset contains example image and data on derived simulation outputs from the FOCCUS WP9 MS9.1 Applications prototype: ESC3-2.3.1.1 - Supporting ecosystem restoration through modelling and observations in the Mediterranean Sea . The prototype application used the WAVEWATCH III numerical wave model, integrated with a new vegetation module (Shirinov et al., 2025), to investigate wave attenuation induced by vegetation, the associated ecosystem services for coastal protection, and the effects in reducing coastal erosion risk. Simulations were carried out in the coastal areas of Lazio using a coupled unstructured-grid circulation–wave system (Causio et al., 2025). LC-MSCS Setup for Lazio Coastal Areas Underlying simulations were conducted using a coupled modeling approach integrating the hydrodynamic model SHYFEM-MPI , the wave model WW3, and the vegetation module for modulating bottom stress according to different ecotypes and seasons, developed in the FOCCUS project.
