Geological investigations of the Preistly and Campbell Glacier region, Terra Nova Bay

In the 1962-63 season, a rapid reconnaissance of the geology of the Terra Nova Bay region was conducted. Approximately 100 rock samples were collected and analysed by thin section analysis. In the 1969-70 season, base maps were prepared at 1:100,000 and 1:60,000 from photo enlargements, the former being used for latitude and longitude, and the latter for pinpointing outcrops. Complete aerial coverage was obtained and enlarged drawings were made from oblique east and west aerial photos of Inexpressible Island and verticals of Vegetations Island. Low level reconnaissance flights were made over the Corner Glacier, Mt Dickason, the Boomerang Glacier, the Northern Foothills and Inexpressible Island. The field party was dropped in Browning Pass, between Mt Abbott and Snowy Point. The geology was investigated as the team sledged across the lower Priestly Glacier to a conspicuous rock bluff south of O'Kane Canyon, the Corner Glacier, Cape Sastrugi, Snowy Point, Boomerang Glacier, Mt Keinath, Mt Browning, Mt Abbott along the seacliffs to Gerlache Inlet, Vegetation Island, Cape Canwe, Cape Confusion, Cape Russell, and Inexpressible Island. Rock samples were collected for analysis and the geology of the area was described.
