VPRS 5523 Statistics of Port Phillip District/Colony of Victoria, 1837-1859

It is understood that the original returns, estimates, etc., were submitted by the senior government official in the Port Phillip District to the Colonial Secretary of the Colony of New South Wales and may be in the custody of the Archives Authority of New South Wales. The series of correspondence files of the Police Magistrate of Port Phillip District (VA 472), the Superintendent (VA 473) or the Colonial Secretarys Office (VA 856) have not been researched for copies of these statistical returns by this archivist.The statistics may have been used to chart the growth or decline of certain aspects of the early development of the Port Phillip District.The set of microfiche that have been accessioned as the P consignment were transferred to the Public Record Office Victoria (PROV) by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, Victoria for historical reasons. The PROV had that set of microfiche copied to make a set available to the public in the search room.
