Using Next Generation sequencing of RNA from two tomato plants we have obtained the full length sequence of a completely new class of viruses, which we named the Tomato Matilda virus – it differs substantial from all other described viruses, and remarkably, the closest possible class of virus is bee sackbrood virus, and other insect viruses.

本研究通过对两株番茄植株的RNA开展下一代测序（Next Generation Sequencing），获得了一类全新病毒的全长序列，将其命名为番茄马蒂尔达病毒（Tomato Matilda virus）——该病毒与所有已报道的其他病毒存在显著差异；尤为值得注意的是，与其亲缘关系最为接近的病毒类群为蜜蜂囊状幼虫病毒（bee sackbrood virus）及其他昆虫病毒。
