Gouldian finch genome sequencing

The Gouldian finch (Erythrura gouldiae) is a bird species of conservation concern in Australia. Wild populations exhibit strong plumage polymorphisms, specifically in the color of their face. Using a range of genetic methods, we have identified a small region of the Gouldian finch genome that is likely responsible for a red-black polymorphism. These genome data are of low-coverage whole-genome re-sequencing, and were taken from birds in a domesticated population in New York that also exhibit the same plumage polymorphism.七彩文鸟（Gouldian finch，学名Erythrura gouldiae）是澳大利亚境内受保护关注的鸟类物种。其野生种群存在显著的羽色多态现象，尤以面部色彩差异最为典型。本研究通过一系列遗传分析手段，已在七彩文鸟基因组中鉴定出一个可能调控红-黑羽色多态的小型基因组区域。本次所用的基因组数据为低覆盖度全基因组重测序数据，样本取自纽约地区的一个驯养种群，该种群同样表现出该类羽色多态现象。
