泡桐是我国主要速生用材和农田防护林树种,分布于全国25个省(市)、自治区,在改善生态环境、保障粮食安全、出口创汇和提高农民收入等方面起着重要作用。泡桐木材是优良的家具用材,也是不可或缺的弦乐器用材,同时也被广泛应用于军事和工业领域。  针对自然界二倍体泡桐品种存在的种种问题,范国强带领他的团队进行了长达19年的研究攻关,建立了四倍体泡桐种质创制体系,创建了世界上首个含5184份的四倍体泡桐种质的资源库,扩大了其遗传背景,为林木多倍体育种提供了技术支撑 培育出了优势突出、特性优良的四倍体泡桐新品种,推进了泡桐品种的更级换代 首次阐明了四倍体泡桐新品种优良特性的分子机理,绘制了世界上第一张白花泡桐基因组精细图谱,为国内外泡桐遗传解析提供了信息平台 创建了一套四倍体泡桐苗木繁育和丰产栽培技术体系,推动了泡桐产业的快速发展,确立了我国在泡桐基础理论研究方面的国际领先地位。

Paulownia is a major fast-growing timber and farmland shelterbelt tree species in China, distributed across 25 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions nationwide. It plays a vital role in improving the ecological environment, ensuring food security, earning foreign currency through exports, and increasing farmers' incomes. Paulownia wood is an excellent material for furniture manufacturing, as well as an indispensable raw material for stringed musical instruments, and is also widely used in military and industrial fields. In response to various problems existing in natural diploid Paulownia varieties, Fan Guoqiang led his team to conduct 19 years of dedicated research. They established the tetraploid Paulownia germplasm creation system, founded the world's first tetraploid Paulownia germplasm resource bank containing 5184 accessions, expanded its genetic background, and provided technical support for forest tree polyploid breeding. They developed new tetraploid Paulownia varieties with outstanding advantages and excellent traits, promoting the upgrading of Paulownia varieties. For the first time, they elucidated the molecular mechanism underlying the excellent traits of the new tetraploid Paulownia varieties, and drew the first high-quality genomic map of Paulownia fortunei worldwide, providing an information platform for domestic and international Paulownia genetic analysis. They also established a complete technical system for tetraploid Paulownia seedling propagation and high-yield cultivation, driving the rapid development of the Paulownia industry, and establishing China's international leading position in basic theoretical research on Paulownia.
