资源简介:
Geological and topographical surveys were carried out in the mountains bordering the Ross Ice Shelf between the Axel Heiberg and Shackleton Glaciers. The objective was to establish what major rock units were present in the area and to map their distribution. Topographic surveys were conducted to enable maps of the area on a scale of approximately 1:100,000 to be drawn and used for base geological maps. The mountains around the Strom Glacier, along the coast and in the area south of Mt Wade were investigated including the Duncan Mountains, Mt Betty, Mt Cohen, around the Cohen Glacier, Mt Fridtjof Nansen, Mt Fergusson, Mt Hanson, Bravo Hills, Mt Wade, the coast from Waldron Spurs to Mt Roth, between Clark Spur and Mt Roth and Mt Mason. The party carried a Geiger counter but no concentrations of radioactive minerals were found. Ice movement markers placed on the Liv Glacier in the 1961-62 season were measured over a 5 day period to measure the rate of movement of the glacier then and these were remeasured after two years to give a more reliable result. Soil and biological specimens were collected at Mt Betty and near Waldron Spurs.
