We collected undisturbed soil samples from the surfaces of three potential dust sources in the Ulan Buh Desert, China, including mobile sand dunes, dried lake beds and farmlands. Through wind tunnel simulations and laboratory analyses, we measured the mass of emitted PM2.5, PM10, PM63 and total sediment from these surfaces at wind speeds of 8 m·s⁻¹, 11 m·s⁻¹ and 14 m·s⁻¹. In addition, we quantified the proportion and mass variations of fine particles at 10 near-surface heights ranging from 13 cm to 130 cm. This dataset contains R scripts and data for analyzing dust emissions and dust vertical profiles in the Ulan Buh Desert and its surrounding regions. These scripts include codes for data processing, visualization and statistical analysis. The dataset includes measurements of dust emissions and dust vertical profiles under varying wind speeds and surface conditions. These data are deposited here to support analyses of dust emission potentials and near-surface transport patterns of different surfaces, identify the main sources of fine particulate matter in regional dust events, and highlight the necessity of farmland shelterbelts for dust emission control.
