Vigna umbellata (Thunb.) or Rice bean is a tropical to temperate grain legume which is a hotspot for biological diversity and an economically important crop in Asia. Rice bean is a multipurpose legume and underutilised (Joshi et al., 2008). Its distribution pattern indicates great adaptive polymorphism for diverse environments, with its distribution ranging from humid tropical to sub-tropical, to sub-temperate climate. Rice bean is a locally important contributor to human nutrition in parts of India and South-East Asia. Like many grain legumes, rice bean seeds contain antinutritional factors. Antitrypsin activity is notable though comparable to that of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata) and black gram (Vigna mungo). For the improvisation of nutritional factors to consume, exploring genome content is essential. As rice bean can translate to a model legume plant along with its other associated species, genetic research using whole genome sequencing will boost and accelerate its breeding by impacting allied and applied approaches towards extensive consumption of this variety. to improvise nutritional factors, exploring genome content is essential.
