Escherichia coli is one of the most important pathogens isolated from extraintestinal infection worldwide. Extraintestinal Pathogenic E. coli (ExPEC) could be classified depending on the isolation source, but only those strains harboring specific virulence factors can be considered pathogenic. Most E. coli strains isolated from extraintestinal infections that lack the recognized virulence factors are considered opportunist pathogens, and their virulence properties are neglected. This project aims to sequence and produce data to help the development of alternative therapies for extraintestinal infection caused by unconventional pathogenic E. coli and enlarge the knowledge about virulence.

大肠杆菌（Escherichia coli）是全球范围内从肠外感染病例中分离得到的最重要病原菌之一。肠外致病性大肠杆菌（Extraintestinal Pathogenic E. coli, ExPEC）可根据分离来源进行分类，但仅携带特定毒力因子的菌株才可被认定为致病菌。多数从肠外感染病例中分离得到的、未携带公认毒力因子的大肠杆菌菌株被视为机会致病菌，其毒力特性长期以来被忽视。本项目旨在开展测序及数据产出工作，以助力针对非常规致病性大肠杆菌引发的肠外感染的替代疗法开发，并深化对毒力相关知识的认知。
