Trig Pillar at Dearne Ings

Trig Pillar S1763, situated at Dearne Ings, near Broomhill, South Yorkshire (UK), at a height of 24.444 metres. The concrete pillar was built by the Ordnance Survey in April 1937, at a cost of £4 17s 3d. Over 6,500 trig pillars were built in Britain during the 1930s, in order to create a control network for surveying the whole country. Most are now redundant, and many have been lost to housing developments, farming, coastal erosion and other causes. This pilar was last maintained in July 1985.
