Zygnema sp. isolated Svalbard

Different layers of a Zygnema sp. mat from a meltwater streamlet at Arctic Svalbard were sampled to analyse gene expression and the metabolite profiles. The findings reveal how the top layer, or 'umbrella', shields the lower layers from harmful radiation.
