Oral infection with Toxoplasma gondii results in a marked dysbiosis and the development of severe pathology in the distal small intestine that is dependent on CD4+ T cells and IFN-γ. This dysbiosis contributes to the development of ileal pathology and while immune-mediated Paneth cell loss promotes dysbiosis, the factors that support the bloom of bacterial pathobionts are still unclear. Using microbial community profiling, we investigated the mechanisms underlying T. gondii infection-induced dysbiosis .
