The concept of preconditions for industrialization

ABSTRACT Although A. Gerschenkron some decades ago argued very convincingly that the preconditions for a country’s industrialization are not rigid nevertheless it still makes sense to try and identify the preconditions that should be approximately fulfilled in order that a country may industrialize. This idea is applied to Brazil in the XIXth century.

摘要 尽管亚历山大·格申克龙（Alexander Gerschenkron）在数十年前极具说服力地提出，一国工业化的前置条件并非固定不变，但尝试识别出一国实现工业化所需大致满足的前置条件仍具有研究意义。本研究将这一思路应用于19世纪的巴西。
