Placental mammals comprise three principal clades: Afrotheria (e.g. elephants and tenrecs), Xenarthra (e.g. armadillos and sloths) and Boreoeutheria (all other placental mammals), the relationships among which are the subject of controversy and a touchstone for debate on the limits of phylogenetic inference. To investigate the relationships among placental mammals, we used a genome scale nucleotide dataset, microRNAs, and the reanalysis of the three largest previously published amino-acid datasets. This BioProject represents the small RNA dataset for Cavia porcellus with which we annotated microRNAs.

有胎盘类哺乳动物（Placental mammals）包含三大主要演化支：非洲兽总目（Afrotheria，代表类群为大象、马岛猬）、贫齿总目（Xenarthra，代表类群为犰狳、树懒）以及北兽总目（Boreoeutheria，涵盖其余所有有胎盘类哺乳动物）。该类群内部的系统发育关系不仅存在广泛争议，同时也是探讨系统发育推断（phylogenetic inference）极限问题的试金石。为探究有胎盘类哺乳动物的系统发育关系，本研究采用了全基因组规模核苷酸数据集、微小RNA（microRNAs）数据集，并对此前已发表的三套最大规模氨基酸数据集进行了重新分析。本生物项目（BioProject）对应的是豚鼠（Cavia porcellus）的小RNA数据集，研究团队借助该数据集完成了微小RNA的注释工作。
