The Wide genetic diversity of any plant and any tree species serves as the source for selection as well as for tree improvement. Genetic diversity influences the long-term viability and persistence of local populations of a particular species. The high level of genetic diversity among widespread genotypes could be exploited by selection and raising quality planting stock. It would be helpful in conserving as well as enhancing the diversity level of particular species. Thus, Next Generation Sequencing is important for the identification and characterization of genetic diversity.

任何植物与树种所蕴含的广泛遗传多样性(genetic diversity),既是品种选育的核心源头,也是林木遗传改良的重要基础。遗传多样性会影响特定物种本地种群的长期生存能力与存续稳定性。广布基因型(genotypes)间所具备的高水平遗传多样性,可通过选育工作加以开发利用,用于培育优质造林苗木。此举将有助于保护并提升特定物种的遗传多样性水平。因此,下一代测序(Next Generation Sequencing)技术对遗传多样性的鉴定与表征至关重要。
