Data from: Vegetation Structure and Thermal Buffering Shape Visitor Experience along a Mangrove Boardwalk

This dataset contains the survey, microclimate, and LiDAR-derived structural data used to analyze visitor experience along a mangrove boardwalk at Kung Krabaen Bay, Chanthaburi Province, Thailand. The study compared three route environments: mixed back-mangrove forest, a monospecific Rhizophora apiculata plantation, and mature R. apiculata forest. survey_responses.csv contains visitor survey responses collected through site-specific online questionnaires at the three boardwalk locations. Each row represents one survey response and includes the site, timestamp, five-point Likert ratings for beauty, perceived mangrove density, perceived temperature, peacefulness, perceived visitor numbers, and perceived boardwalk safety, plus derived date, hour, season, and time-of-day. Missing values indicate unanswered items. logger_output.csv contains temperature and light records from HOBO Pendant MX2202 loggers installed at the three survey locations and programmed at 12-min intervals (15 December 2024 to 29 June 2025). The logger data include site, timestamp, temperature (°C), and light intensity (lux). trail_view_metrics.csv contains LiDAR-derived visitor-perspective structural metrics for 174 observer points sampled along the boardwalk route from a handheld SLAM LiDAR scan. Each observer point includes route coordinates and metrics describing forward visibility, forward and lateral enclosure, canopy cover, vertical complexity, overstory height, and openness.The raw handheld SLAM LiDAR point cloud is not included in this repository because of its large file size. The repository provides the derived observer-point structural metrics used in the analysis. The raw LiDAR point cloud can be made available by the corresponding author upon reasonable request.
