The 1995 American Travel Survey Microdata CD-ROM: Household Trip and Person Trip Files

The following was abstracted from the availability announcement for the
1995 American Travel Survey:

The Bureau of Trasportation Statistics (BTS "http://www.bts.gov") a
division of the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT,
"http://www.dot.gov") has announced the release of the 1995 American
Travel Survey (ATS) Microdata CD-ROM: Household trip and Person Trip
Files. This CD-ROM is the first in a series from the 1995 American
travel Survey that was conducted between January 1995 and December
1995.

The ATS collected quarterly information from approximately 80,000
households on their longdistance travel in the United States. Results
of the survey show interstate and intermetropolotan passenger travel
nationwide by trip and traveler characteristics for all modes and for
intermodal combinations. The ATS data provides answers to how, why,
where, when, and who travels in America.

Each record in the files contained on theis CD-ROM represents either
an individual household or person trip, respectively, containing
household, person, and trip characteristics. These files contain
variables covering trip origin and destination geography; housing and
household characteristics; person characteristics; distance
calculations; stop and side trip data; edit and imputation items; and
weighting factors. The data files are supplemented by electronic
versions of the technical documentation and related administrative
files in PDF, ASCII, MS WORD, and/or Wordperfect formats. A database
or statistical software application is required to access and use the
information available on this CD-ROM.
