Previous work has demonstrated that a novel predatory bacterium, known as FD111, can infect and kill cultures of the eukaryotic alga Nannochloropsis. Here, we identify this bacterium as an organism belonging to the genus Oligoflexus, within the Oligoflexia class of Proteobacteria, was identified as the probable causal agent. Known as FD111, the bacterium demonstrated Bdellovibrio-and-like-organism (BALO) predatory attributes and is the first known observation of an Oligoflexus infection of a eukaryote.
