Autism and lone actor grievance fuelled violence: A rapid evidence assessment of best practice psychological treatment

Autistic individuals are increasingly referred to threat assessment services because of concerns about lone-actor grievance-fuelled violence, yet there is little evidence to guide appropriate psychological intervention. This review found that current responses predominantly emphasised monitoring and case management, while psychological interventions inconsistently addressed the mechanisms central to ASD-related pathways to violence were inconsistently addressed. The findings highlight a critical need for formulation-driven, autism-informed psychological treatment integrated within structured professional judgement and multidisciplinary threat assessment frameworks.
