On this document you will find the five scripts that were used when making the five audiovisual advice-giving films that were delivered to parents. The language we focused on in this study is Mandarin Chinese (henceforth just ‘Chinese’). These ideas can also be implemented in families with other heritage languages.This advice-giving stage is the third stage of the Integrated Modal of Advice (Feng, 2009, 2014) that we implemented in our study.<br>This is the abstract from the study: <b>Abstract</b>Migrant-heritage parents may lack confidence in their skills and knowledge related to bilingual child raising. This qualitative study explores the communicative act of advice giving to caregivers (14 mothers) of young children in New Zealand, following the integrated model of advice giving. Participants had expressed interest in improving their ability to raise their children bilingually (Mandarin Chinese and English), and had solicited advice on their challenges. We provide a set of scholarly informed audiovisuals that advise parents on these challenges, and we later elicit information on parents’ experience implementing the advice through surveys and interviews.We identify and discuss particular difficulties parents’ experience in providing extensive home language exposure, parents’ growing metalinguistic knowledge, and their awareness of the need to integrate opportunities for enriched parent-child language use during every-day tasks. We discuss the need for advice to be aligned with established family routines, and our adaptations to the advice-giving model.<b>Keywords</b>Advice giving, bilingual child raising, heritage language maintenance, first generation migrants

移民背景家长往往对自身双语育儿(bilingual child raising)相关的技能与知识缺乏自信。本研究采用质性研究范式,基于整合式建议模型,对新西兰14名幼儿看护者(均为母亲)的建议沟通行为展开探究。参与本次研究的家长均表达了提升双语育儿(bilingual child raising)能力的意愿,并曾就自身面临的育儿难题寻求建议。本研究团队基于学术研究成果,制作了一系列针对上述难题的视听建议内容;后续通过问卷与访谈收集了家长落实建议后的体验反馈。
本研究梳理并讨论了家长在三方面遇到的具体困境:为子女提供充足的家庭语言输入、家长自身元语言意识(metalinguistic knowledge)的提升,以及家长意识到需在日常事务中融入丰富的亲子语言互动机会。此外,我们还探讨了建议内容需贴合家庭既有日常作息的必要性,以及团队对原有建议模型所做的适配调整。
