Translation (Htoi San) My father told this story about a goblin long ago. A long time ago, there was a house. The houses from ancient times were in the grove. One place and another were quite far. In that house the three siblings stayed there. The three sisters went cultivation in the jungle. They lost their way to the wild field. On the way to the jungle, the siblings lost their way, and they called each other. As they were lost in the jungle, it was dark and could not be seen clearly. Therefore, they were unhappy and scared. The two elder sisters knew that they could not talk and call out loudly to each other even though they were lost in the jungle. But the youngest sister did not know that. She wandered round and round in the jungle the whole day. The two elder sisters also turned round and round in that wild field, and finally, they could reach their home with all their strength. Even though they could get home, the youngest one had yet to reach. "Our youngest sister can come home whatever it is as this jungle is not very wide and deep so that she can reach home," the two sisters cheered up each other. The youngest sister was alone, frightened in the wild field, so she called out, "Ah Ba." She did not hear any feedback, so she made another call again. When she called out "Ah Ba," she heard an answering sound, "Oi," from a distant place. "Oh! My sister is at that side," then she went to a place where she heard a voice. When she shouted, "Ah Ba," she heard a return sound, "Oi," from a nearby place. She heard the answering sound from a nearby place. She thought, "Alright, I am getting closer to Ah Ba," It was a deep place in the jungle. The forest was more profound, and she thought, "Oh! They all were so happy to meet then the two elder sisters took their youngest one with them and slept together. After they all fell asleep, the youngest sister quavered with panic, "I am scared. I am scared. Ah Ba, I am scared." "What are you afraid of?" asked the eldest sister. The youngest sister initially slept by herself, but she could not sleep due to fear. She went into her two sisters and slept again. Although she was sleeping between her sisters, she still said, "Ah Ba, I am afraid. I saw the ogre." Her sister said, "Don't be terrified. There is none like this come to our village," she eased her youngest sister. But her youngest one kept on saying, "Sacred! I am scared! I am afraid!" When they all fell asleep soundly, the ogre that replied 'Oi' to the youngest sister came to them. That ogre remembered the scent of that youngest girl. Whatever country she went to or wherever she ran away from, that ogre knew her well. That ogre followed the girl's scent to know where she lived. Then it went into the girl's house. The ogres were spirits, and they always hindered humans long ago. It took and eloped with the girl, who arrived home and said afraid, from where she slept between her sisters. Her two sisters did not even know that she was taken. Therefore, we could not say that our Kachin people had no ogres or goblins before. We also needed to find out whether they really existed or not.
