Pre-Electoral Coalition Dataset

This dataset comprises 589 pre-electoral coalitions that formed in 639 elections held in 40 democratic countries between 1945 and 2018. A pre-electoral coalition is defined as two or more parties that - before an election - reciprocally and publicly voice their willingness to form a government coalition after the election.

The dataset is built using identifiers that allow to combine it with publicly available PARLGOV data on the composition of parliaments and cabinets version 2018) .

Next to the raw data and a thorough documentation, the dataset provides Stata Do-files to replicate basic overview tables, indicators, as well as merges with PARLGOV data on the composition of parliaments and cabinets.
