Data collection of lab occured in two days, October 13, 2015 and October 20, 2015 during the time peroid of 2:30 to 5:10 PM in the York University Danby Woodlot and Grasslands with the assistance of group members Khaula, Kathy, and Houra. The experiment was to measure the impact of sunlight and soil moisture on plant abundance in both the York University Danby Woodlot and Grasslands. During the data collection dates, temperature changed each day, from cold and windy to rainy weather, along with leaves covering the smaller plants, which would impact the plant abundance. To collect the data, we chose random numbers, which was used for the location of the quadrat in order to get random sampling for the replicates. The information that was collected was the plant abundance, which was counted in the quadrats perimeter; sunlight, measuring (scale of 0-3) amount of light covering the plants in the quadrat; and soil moisture, measuring (scale 0-2) amount of moisture found in the soil that plants were growing in, done by using popsicle sticks and paper towel. My partner Kathy and I took 40 random replicates in the Danby Woodlot on the first day of data collection and 40 more replicates on the second data collection day while our other two group members Khaula and Houra repeated the same process in the Grassland area.
本数据集的采集工作于2015年10月13日与2015年10月20日两日开展,每日采集时段为下午2:30至5:10,采集地点为约克大学(York University)丹比林地与草地(Danby Woodlot and Grasslands),采集工作由组员Khaula、Kathy与Houra协助完成。
本实验旨在探究光照与土壤湿度对约克大学丹比林地及草地内植物多度的影响。数据采集期间每日气温存在波动,天气状况从寒冷多风转为阴雨,同时存在落叶覆盖小型植株的情况,上述因素均会对植物多度观测产生影响。
数据采集环节通过随机数确定样方(quadrat)的布设位置,以实现重复随机抽样。本次采集的观测指标包括:植物多度,即在样方边界内计数植株数量;光照强度,采用0-3级标尺对样方内植株受光照覆盖程度进行评级;土壤湿度,采用0-2级标尺对植株生长土壤的湿度进行评级,测量方式为使用冰棒棍与纸巾完成测定。
本次采集工作中,笔者与组员Kathy于首日在丹比林地完成40组重复采样,次日于同一区域再完成40组重复采样;其余两名组员Khaula与Houra则在草地区域重复上述采样流程。
