A total of 14 treatments were conducted in this experiment: the farmland with continuous planting of cotton for 1 year, 3 years, 5 years, 8 years, 10 years, 15 years and 20 years in two sites (Aksu and Shihezi), named AKS1, AKS3, AKS5, AKS8, AKS10, AKS15, AKS20, SHZ1, SHZ3, SHZ5, SHZ8, SHZ10, SHZ15 and SHZ20, respectively. Soil samples were collected with a soil auger (2.5 cm in diameter, 0-20 cm deep) using the five-point sampling method, and five soil samples collected in each block were pooled into one sample, with 6 mixed samples per treatment.

本实验共设置14组处理：在阿克苏（Aksu）与石河子（Shihezi）两个试验点，分别开展连作年限为1年、3年、5年、8年、10年、15年及20年的棉田连作实验，各组处理依次命名为AKS1、AKS3、AKS5、AKS8、AKS10、AKS15、AKS20、SHZ1、SHZ3、SHZ5、SHZ8、SHZ10、SHZ15及SHZ20。采用五点取样法，使用直径2.5 cm、取样深度0-20 cm的土钻采集土壤样品，每个样区内采集的5份土壤样品合并为1个复合样品，每组处理设置6个复合样品。
