The grid is comprised of a series of tiles, each of which is 25 miles east/west by 25 miles north/south (four townships north/south by 4 ranges east/west). 本要素服务（feature service）展示了作为阿拉斯加州国家野生动物保护区（National Wildlife Refuges）自动化地图系列基础的索引格网（index grid）。该格网由若干瓦片组成，单块瓦片的东西向跨度为25英里、南北向跨度为25英里，对应南北向4个镇区、东西向4个测量区。该索引格网中的每块瓦片均对应覆盖阿拉斯加州全部16处国家野生动物保护区的604幅1:30000比例尺地图的制图范围。该604幅地图均采用地理PDF（geoPDF）格式，可加载至支持GPS的平板电脑或智能手机中，用于导航、路线规划、数据采集、保护区管理等多种场景。
