Galveston Island is a barrier island in the Texas coast approximately 50 miles away from Houston. This island has been historically impacted by hurricane/storm events such as Hurricane Ike in 2008. The goal of this project is to build an inventory for the island's electric power network (EPN) as a part of the Galveston Testbed for the NIST funded Center of Excellence (CoE) for Risk Based Community Resilience Planning. The inventory data for the transmission and distribution networks of Galveston Island was developed using publicly available data sources, along with post-processing, expert judgement, and inference. The EPN inventory data comprises the following items: a) Distribution system point data including the location, class, height and span length for wood poles. b) Distribution system connectivity including overhead and underground lines. c) Transmission system data including the location of towers and the location of prestressed concrete poles. d) Transmission system connectivity. e) The location of substations. This data is designed to be used along with the wind-surge-wave fragility functions proposed by the authors found in the following paper: Darestani, Y., Padgett, J. and Shafieezadeh, A., 2022. Parametrized Wind–Surge–Wave Fragility Functions for Wood Utility Poles. Journal of Structural Engineering, 148(6), p.04022057. https://doi.org/10.1061/(ASCE)ST.1943-541X.0003319. Developed as a part of a broader CoE Tesbed effort, this dataset is intended for use within the Interdependent Networked Community Resilience Modeling Environment (IN-CORE).
