An analysis of medieval literacy in Scandinavian towns

As part of my thesis I analysed the social status and gender of issuers of charters written in five Scandinavian towns (Lund, Lödöse, Skara, Sigtuna and Uppsala) during the period 1076-1550, to see whether it was possible to discern when secular persons outside the elite started issuing charters and other documents to a greater extent.本研究作为本人学位论文的组成部分，对公元1076年至1550年间斯堪的纳维亚五座城镇（隆德（Lund）、勒勒瑟（Lödöse）、舍拉（Skara）、锡格蒂纳（Sigtuna）、乌普萨拉（Uppsala））出具的特许状（charter）颁发者的社会地位与性别进行了分析，旨在厘清精英阶层以外的世俗人士何时开始更广泛地颁发特许状及其他文书。
