Papua New Guinea Rural Household Survey, 2023

The Papua New Guinea Rural Household Survey (2023) collected detailed household-level data on agricultural production, food and non-food consumption and expenditure, and livelihood strategies across 14 provinces, covering communities in the highlands, lowlands, and islands of Papua New Guinea (PNG). The survey was designed using a purposive sampling strategy based on defined agro-ecological zones, which allows for the analysis of key factors influencing rural households and communities. It is important to note that the survey is not nationally representative; however, given the careful random selection of survey areas, we expect that generalizable relationships between variables affecting socio-economic and other development outcomes in rural PNG communities will be consistently observed across representative samples and in this survey. These factors include those that contribute to more resilient local food systems, diversified employment opportunities, and improved household wellbeing. The survey encompasses 2,699 households in 270 communities, spanning five agroecological zones.It features detailed modules on a wide range of topics relevant to rural livelihoods, agricultural production, and household wellbeing, including: Household Characteristics — Demographics, education, migration, and other household composition details. Agricultural Production — Crop production, use of household labor, and other farming-related activities. Household Assets — Ownership of production equipment, consumer durables, livestock, and housing quality. Off-farm Activities — Income from wage employment, business activities, and transfers or gifts. Consumption and Expenditure — Non-food and food expenditures, food consumption patterns, and dietary diversity. Economic Shocks and Food Insecurity — Perceptions of poverty, recent experiences of food insecurity, and access to health and nutrition extension services. Child and Mother Anthropometric Measurements — Height and weight of the child and biological mother. Dietary Quality Questionnaire — Individual-level data from a 24-hour recall of specific food groups consumed.

巴布亚新几内亚2023年农村家庭调查（Papua New Guinea Rural Household Survey, 2023）采集了覆盖14个省份的家庭层面精细化调研数据，内容涉及农业生产、食品与非食品消费及支出、生计策略，调研覆盖巴布亚新几内亚（Papua New Guinea, PNG）高地、低地与岛屿地区的社区。本次调查采用基于划定农业生态区（agro-ecological zones）的目的性抽样（purposive sampling）方案设计，可为分析影响农村家庭与社区的核心因素提供支撑。需说明的是，该调查不具备全国代表性；但鉴于调研区域经过严谨的随机遴选，我们预期，影响巴布亚新几内亚农村社区社会经济及其他发展成果的变量间可推广的关联关系，在代表性样本与本次调查中均能得到一致观测。此类关联因素包括助力构建韧性更强的本地粮食系统、拓展多元化就业渠道以及改善家庭福祉的各类要素。本次调查共纳入270个社区的2699户家庭，覆盖5个农业生态区。
该调查包含与农村生计、农业生产及家庭福祉高度相关的多维度精细化模块，具体涵盖：
1. 家庭特征模块：人口结构、教育水平、迁移情况及其他家庭组成细节；
2. 农业生产模块：作物种植、家庭劳动力使用及其他农业相关活动；
3. 家庭资产模块：生产设备、耐用消费品、牲畜所有权及住房条件；
4. 非农活动模块：工资性收入、经营活动收入及转移支付或馈赠所得；
5. 消费与支出模块：非食品与食品支出、食品消费模式及膳食多样性；
6. 经济冲击与粮食不安全模块：贫困感知、近期粮食不安全经历及健康与营养推广服务获取情况；
7. 儿童与母亲人体测量模块：儿童及生物学母亲的身高与体重数据；
8. 膳食质量问卷模块：基于24小时膳食回顾法（24-hour recall）收集的个体层面特定食物组摄入数据。
