This repository contains the initial requirements for Copernicus Sentinel-2 Next Generation (S2NG) spatial coverage masks for various observation scenarios. These masks must be considered as "to be confirmed" and will be subject to change. These masks are provided in support of the first release of the S2NG mission requirements document. The S2NG mission is under development and is currently planned to launch in the mid-2030's. There are five masks provided:1) The HLOP mask [MRD-0050], specifying the proposed default daytime coverage of S2NG and providing baseline continuity with S2 First Generation.2) The EEZ mask [MRD-0050], specifying the proposed extended daytime coverage across the maritime EEZ. This mask is based upon the masks provided by the Flanders Marine Institute (2019), available online at: https://www.marineregions.org/ and https://doi.org/10.14284/3863) The gas flare mask [MRD-0072], specifying the proposed coverage for S2NG at night in support of oil/gas flare monitoring. This mask is derived from gas flare detections by the VIIRS instrument flying aboard NOAA's SNPP and JPSS missions.4) The twilight mask [MRD-0075], specifying the proposed high SZA coverage for S2NG in support of marine monitoring, specifically sea ice detection.5) The Near-Realtime mask [MRD-0240, -0250], specifying the proposed coverage over which data shall be acquired with NRT latency. The coverage masks are provided in both shapefile and geoJSON format. In addition, PNG files are provided to give a graphical overview of each coverage mask.Furthermore, for the gas flare mask a CSV is provided that contains the lat/lon of each flare included in the mask. This dataset represented the combined work of the Sentinel-2 Next Generation Mission Advisory Group and the High Level Operations Plan for the Sentinel-2 First Generation mission.
