The beneficial interactions between Arabidopsis and Pseudomonas simiae WCS417 changed when several root defense barriers cannot function properly, including cutin, suberin, lignin, callose, camalexin and glucosinolates. To test the effects of root exudates of these defense barrier mutants on the function of WCS417, we exposed WCS417 to root exudates of wild-type or each of the mutants for 1 h, after which we profiled bacterial transcriptome by RNA sequencing.
