Efficient Representation and Computation of Topological Relationships Between Polygons Using Compact Data Structures

This dataset collection contains the real-world and synthetic polygon datasets used in the experimental evaluation presented in the associated research paper. The real-world datasets are derived from the administrative divisions of Chile and include polygon representations of regions and municipalities (comunas). The data are organized hierarchically by region, with each region containing the corresponding municipality polygons. For each municipality, the collection includes: Polygon representations suitable for processing with the GEOS library. Rasterized versions of the polygons generated at multiple spatial resolutions. Binary files corresponding to the K2-tree representations used in the experiments. (.kt files) The rasterized datasets were generated to evaluate topological relations over compact spatial data structures. Multiple resolutions are provided to facilitate scalability analyses and reproducibility of the experimental results. In addition to the real-world data, the collection includes synthetic polygon datasets designed to reproduce a variety of topological relationships, including disjoint, touches, overlaps, intersects, within, and contains. These datasets provide controlled benchmark scenarios for evaluating spatial query processing methods. All files are organized to support direct replication of the experiments reported in the paper. The dataset enables researchers to evaluate both exact geometric processing using GEOS and compact raster-based processing using K2-tree representations under different spatial resolutions.
